Hard to believe that 2021 is coming to a close and 2022 will be upon us shortly. It is a time to reflect on the past while at the same time, pondering the future. It is also a time to gather with family and friends. To that extent, Rathbone will be closed for the holidays as follows:

Dear Valued Customer,
Due to the change in market conditions and the global business climate, Rathbone Precision Metals is announcing a price increase effective with all orders shipped after January 1, 2022. Prices will be increased 8 to 10% on average.
The increase is necessary given our increased costs and inflationary pressures that we face. As you are aware, cost pressures are not limited to just raw materials but also include labor, utilities, supplies, packaging, and freight.
Capacities and overall mill constraints continue to push lead-times out and we strongly encourage our customers to review their requirements and place orders sooner rather than later.
Rathbone is committed to meeting your current and future requirements. We will continue to monitor the market and deliver the best value for your organization.

If you recall, in my last blog, I advised all that Lead Times are on the rise and to get your orders in sooner than later. Kudo’s to those that listened and sent in their orders. To those of you that have waited, well…..it’s not looking good. Rathbone is currently extending the lead time by 2 weeks on most orders. Please note that this is in addition to the raw stock lead time which have been on the rise for awhile.
The Rathbone Team is doing what they can do to get orders produced as quick as possible. However, I can not stress enough to get your orders in as soon as possible. Are you working on a project for 2022, it’s not to early to call us to review how profiles will save time and money.

The talk of the town last year at this time was the Covid Virus and while it is still a topic, supply chain/logistics issues is the current challenge for most companies today. While we all have supply/logistic challenges, the award probably goes to those companies who have container/product on the Ever Given, which is still in the Suez Canal. Either way, the challenges we encounter are not making any ones life’s easier and if I had any hair to pull out, I would be tugging on it.
I know I have said this a few thousand times (okay – maybe not that many), “Get Your Orders in Sooner than Later” and this is more true today than ever before. Lead times for raw stock are still on the rise along with late shipments, so much for JIT. And then there are the specialty raw stock materials, which not only have longer lead times, but in some cases the material is no longer available domestically. If you want to get your order when you need it, I suggest giving Rathbone a call to discuss any supply/logistics issues. Another benefit to ordering sooner – better pricing. With prices constantly on the rise, the sooner we can process your order means the more money you will save. A friendly reminder is to ask about volume discounts when placing your order, ordering a few more pounds could save you money.

While the 1st Quarter of 2021 has come to a close, the challenges of the cold work industry continue. The costs of raw material and associated surcharges continues to climb. In addition, the lead time to acquire raw stock is extending along with some grades not being available. We continue to expect raw material lead times and costs to increase as the economy improves.
While most of these items are beyond the control of Rathbone Precision Metals, we want to do what we can to work with you during these challenging times. We cannot stress enough that you review your profile requirements and order 4-8 weeks sooner than your normally would. Do not hesitate to call us for current pricing and lead times for your profiles.

Hope everyone’s 2021 is getting off to a good start. As I had mentioned previously, I was hearing rumblings of price increases in the metal market and suggested people get their orders in. Well, the rumor mills were right as I have already received about a half dozen notices of price increases. I can only strongly suggest, that if you were going to place an order in Q1-21, then I suggest sooner than later, if you want to save money.
